On the phone
Today was my first day on the phone. We are handling complaints and compliments. It is a challenge, but it's worth it. I had a lot of compliments today on how I handled calls. It was great! I have my own desk (of course), a custom headset, my own direct line, voice mail, and email. As if it's not good enough that Lowe's provides me with everything I need to do my job -even stuff like pens and paper- but I can use it all for personal use as well. The calls are easy. They last about five minutes and they have about ten minutes between. I can hardly believe I am being paid to do this!
Selo
Selo has really enjoyed being out here with me. He loves NC and loves my family. (And my family love him too!) He has been going to church with me and learning a lot. He had a job interview yesterday and another one today. He was unofficially offered the one for today, but is waiting for the official offer to see if it will be worth it, or if he would be better to wait for a better one. Being out here has been so good for him. He has been able to get away from all the bad memories in Utah, and start a new (and better) life for himself out here.
Selo's girls
The link that had the girls pics on it has been removed or locked. But these girls are so cute, they shouldn't be hidden from the world! I have put together a few photos in photobucket. The girls are living in Montana with their mom and aunt (Selo's sister), so I did the best I could with what I had. (The girls' are Selo's with his ex-wife. And yes, Selo and I will have pics of us and our family as soon as our first little one is born.) There are quite a few good ones of Katie and Natalie, but sadly there aren't any of the girls with their sister Madeleine or any of the girls and their mom. (The only ones I had are not good pics of their mom, so I didn't want to post them. lol Who REALLY looks good hours after they have a baby?) But feel free to enjoy these pics, and hopefully soon their mom will have the website back up and running- especially since she has a whole website just for them.
Speaking of his ex wife, I had an interesting dream the other night. I dreamed that his ex wife and I made peace. What a nice thought! To make peace with an enemy! In my dream I had a problem (something to do with work) and she ended up helping me get it fixed. We didn't end up being best friends or anything, but it was nice to be able to work together toward a common goal. I would love to be able to be on good terms with her. It would make everyone life easier and better. *sigh* Although I don't spend much time thinking about her anymore, it is a nice thought all the same.
Beka's wedding
So far things are going well. She got her engagement pictures done and they look fabulous! She is still pushing along making decisions and final plans about her wedding. It is going to be a beautiful wedding! Selo and I got our flights back to Utah for the wedding, so we will be attending it. Hopefully during the few days we are there we will also have a few minutes to spend with other friends and family, but Rebeka's wedding is the main focus of this particular trip. So good luck Bek- let me know what else you need me to do.
Prayer and Religion
Being here has really opened my eyes. As many of you know, Utah is a lot like a bubble. And living inside that bubble is a whole different culture. The outside world is a mystery and very intriguing to those of us raised in Utah. Since I have been in NC I have learned that *Utahns be warned* there really are other religions out there. People really do openly talk about 'their church' and pray before meals. Out here, it is not unusual to see someone bow their head in reverence before taking the first bite. It is not shameful or embarrassing to be a good strong member of whatever religion you belong to. I am so grateful to be learning this lesson. It has encouraged me to be more like some of my new friends. I have been saying my prayers. I have been more confident when telling people about my religion (I belong to the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). I am no longer embarrassed or ashamed to be seen acting as someone that follows Christ. To everyone out there that is strong enough to respect their own religion and the religions of those around them (this means you William, Susan, and Theresa), I thank you.
Not only have I become stronger in my religion, but I have met a woman that is teaching me about my heritage. How do you ask? I am born from Jewish decent. I am learning all about the religious holidays and the practices involved. It is wonderful! (Thanks goes to Diane for this one.)
North Carolina Specialties
NC has a few specialties that are topped by no one. One of them, are biscuits. Oh how I missed good biscuits. NC has Bojangles, and Bojangles sure knows how to make a biscuit. Another thing about NC are the roads. The roads out here have no rhyme or rythm to them. At all. For example, yesterday I was driving on a road. I turned. The name of the road stayed the same. I turned again. The name of the road still stayed the same. Another road joined that road. One half of the road was one name, the other half was another. I am learning how to go by directions and landmarks, rather than street names. I love North Carolina speak. They have their own words and meanings. Here are a few of my favorites:
Ill: She was acting so ill toward him.
Ugly: We had the ugliest argument yesterday.
Mash: (my favorite) Mash that button if you want to do...
The people here in North Carolina are wonderful. The aren't prideful or reserved or judgemental. They are kind and helpful. Talk of a couple getting married is reason for celebration and it's a big "To-Do". I have noticed a change in my attitude towards others since I've been here. This is definately where I want to live and raise my family.
