Sweetie's Update (Be Prepared)

She is really in bad shape. It turns out when she was attacked, it was bad. She was scratched or bitten several places along her head, neck and back. She is missing chunks of fur and skin everywhere. On her paw that was swollen, things are even worse. Whatever it was that attacked her (We think it was a fox!), it bit her so hard it broke her foot. The bones are infected, and the tissue is corrupted. It will eventually kill her. So the vet gave me the option of putting her down or fixing it. After asking a million questions about her quality of life and future if she were to live, I called Selo and told him everything. After much discussion between Selo, the doctor and I, we decided to let her live, and fix her up. So they amputated part of her foot, drained the infection, and cleaned everything else up. She is going to have to be relocated, away from the woods. (The doctor says she is too small to defend herself against that kind of animal, whatever it was.) I will be picking her up from the doctor in an hour, and Selo and I will be taking care of her for at least two weeks (she will need to have her bandage dressings changed and medicine several times a day), then we will find her a home. I have several contacts in the area of various groups, and I am part of the Wilkes Humane Society. I don't think we will have any trouble finding her a home, if she survives the next two weeks. She is going to have a complete life change, and part of her body gone, and a recovery from a traumatic event. For a being that understands it, this would be difficult enough. The doctor says other than this she is a good, healthy cat. So we have much hope for her. Yay for Sweetie!

For those of you in the area, if you (or someone you know) would like to adopt Sweetie after she is recovered, please let me know.

*Note* To anyone out there who's heart is not as soft as mine, that's okay. I can respect that you think this is crazy. But we did pray before any decisions were made, and we feel good about what we did. As a Christian and decent human beings, we couldn't sit back and watch an animal suffer and die. And we couldn't put her to sleep when she had such a good chance at life. This is what was prayed for, this is the answer that was received, this is what we have done, and we feel good about it. Sweetie will live, and God is pleased. What else matters?
