Blogger or Wordpress

Thanks to Elizabeth, at Table 4 Five, I've been given some good news. I CAN keep blogger as my platform for my new blog. I don't have to use wordpress.

I like the way blogger is set up better. However, WP has some features that I like, too.

(BTW, I did hear from Lizz. Misti said she gave Lizz the message and Lizz said she would email me what I need to have my duckie template on WP.)

Now, I get to decide if I want to use blogger or use wordpress.

Blogger
  • what I am used to.

  • already set up.

  • I like the layout that blogger has set up.

Wordpress
  • millions of templates

  • password protect individual posts

  • millions of plugins

  • so many people are familiar with, I know I could get help when I have a problem
So, what do you think? Which platform do you prefer? Have you used both? I'd love to hear what you have to say about this, since I am undecided of where to go from here.

Wordpress is better. I realize that sometimes new can be frustrating BUT you just have to be patient, take your time, and keep asking questions on how to do stuff. If you need help I'm here.

BTW, I lost the link to your protected blog. Can you resend it via yahoo instant messenger? THANK YOU so much!!

PS Don't forget you can move all of your content to wordpress and it will not mess up the URLS at all.

PPS You can also continue to get help on Blog Talk Gossip as well..

I really like wordpress. If I had the capability, I would host my own wordpress blog. I have in the past but my isp (my brother in law) was changing and he needed that server for his new business. I went to wordpress.com and they have most all the same features, just locked down a little more for their security. They have a few data centers and great reliability and availability. They also don't do any ads. I have not really worked with blogger much. It looks pretty flexible. A lot of folks are on either platform. Do what you're comfortable with. I'm sure it will be fantastic!

I've only used Blogger, so I have no experience with wordpress at all. I like how user-friendly blogger is, but since I don't know anything about wordpress I can't compare.

I've never used blogger so I can't help ya hon. I love wordpress though and think that it would be the better program but that's just my opinion!

Also, if you can't use this ducky layout, there are always other options - I'd have to talk to a friend of mine who can code wp but maybe we can come up with something for you...

Hi! I was trying to make a decision between the two when I switched blog addresses. And I am glad I stayed with Blogger. Email me with specific questions....

I switched from Blogger to Wordpress over a year ago and I do like WP a lot more. I don't need to worry about my blogs being unavailable when blogger is doing updates and I have more freedom with designing my blogs as well.

I have used both and not to make it harder to decide, but I am not really partial to either. I use WP because that is what I was using before I started my website blog. With more options come more issues. LOL

I've used both. And for blogging, I love WP more :) I just think it's easier and you can do more stuff with it

I used blogger a few years ago - heard about wpress and switched. I love wpress! At the time it could do sooooo much more. Since then blogger has caught up some - but the help you can get for wpress is so much better than blogger. If you have a problem with blogger you are pretty much on your own - at least that is my experience. But wpress....you get more help and find more answers than you can imagine!

Hey! Honestly, I know little about WP because I have never used it. I do like Blogger and am happy with it. I don't, at the moment at least, feel the need for a whole bunch of template options. I've found Blogger to be very user friendly and haven't run into an issue yet with being unable to do something I want to do. HTML codes are easy enough when I want to add something. I guess it just depends on what you are needing.

The biggest winning point for Blogger for me is I love how Blogger is tied in with my Gmail acount and Picasa pictures. I have my email and photos and blog all together on my google account. And it makes things mesh well with my new Blackberry.

Blogger, but only because I'm lazy :)

Hey! I switched from blogger to WP. I know WP takes some getting used too, but I def think it's worth it!! I vote WP!

Hi, I've used both and for me personally it's WordPress on my own hosting.

For some the admin side can seem a lot harder at first but once you get used to it, it's really much quicker and easier, then of course as you mentioned there's all those plugins etc that make life easier still.

I will admit that's it's been a long time since I used blogger (once I switched to WordPress - first on WordPress.com and then my own hosting - I just never wanted to go back) so it may have improved a great deal on what it once was, I still have a blogger blog so I'll have to get in and check it out one of these days, but I know I won't be going back to it full time :)

I'm thinking I will go with WP. My concern was that I wouldn't be able to learn it, but with everyone else that has it I see that I will be able to get plenty of help.

And THANK YOU to everyone that offered your opinions and suggestions. I appreciate your input.

I would absolutely go with Wordpress. There's just so much more you can do with it and more that you can control.

And I'm with you, moving to something 'new' like that always takes me a little time, but with Wordpress being such a widely used platform, it's really not hard to find answers when you get lost!

You know I prefer Wordpress :)

The case to my external drive broke and it's going to be a while before I can afford an enclosure so I can access it again. This matters to you BECAUSE the WP theme I made for you is on that drive. *cries* It wouldn't be a big deal, enclosures are only like $40, but I was in an accident and for a while every spare penny goes to pay off the lady I hit. *cries more*

So I just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about you and the WP theme.

Oh that stinks. I'm sorry to hear about your accident. Thanks for keeping me updated on the theme. Were you hurt in the accident?
